(June 2021) Farewell dinner for Utpal. Utpal will be leaving the lab soon for his next position—Assistant Professor at the Institute of Advanced Research in Ghandinagar, India! Utpal brought the lab to a new direction, focusing his efforts on building a computational pipeline for natural product discovery in shotgun metagenomes (posted on BioRxiv). Thank you Utpal for all the hard work and camaraderie, and we wish you all the best!

(April 2021) (a peek of things to come!) More often than not, the molecular process underlying any biological function or behavior is not a simple circuit involving a few genes, but a complex, multilayered, and dynamic lattice of interlocking subsystems. Data-driven network graphs are nice tools to simplify that complexity just enough so that domain experts can interpret it, and also hypothesize on the most likely targets for intervention.

(Mar. 2020) Group members attend the International Microbiome Meeting hosted by the Center for Microbiome Innovation at the University of California San Diego. What a fabulous place to have a conference!

(Mar. 2020) During a conference at a time when work travel was still permitted, Dr. Martin Blaser lays down some TRUTH on COVID-19 during the early days of the pandemic. We had no idea the extent of what was coming. 😢
